The Gulf Coast Center is one of the 39 community centers designated by the State of Texas as the mental health and mental retardation authority. The Center serves Galveston and Brazoria Counties. The center was originally formed in 1973 and since that time has expanded its community based services to not only include mental health and mental retardation services but also substance use recovery, services to the homeless and public transportation services.
The Center works in collaboration with many local agencies such as law enforcement and the criminal justice system, UTMB and other local community hospitals, and advocate groups to ensure the needs of those we serve are met.
